Prepare for your first flight

These steps cover safe preparation rather than model-specific button presses. Use the instructions supplied with your unit for its current app, controller pairing and calibration sequence.

1. Inspect and charge: Check the drone, propellers and battery, then fully charge the flight battery before setup.

3. Choose a safe practice area: Start outdoors in a large open space in calm, dry weather, away from people, roads, trees and restricted airspace.
4. Practice a low hover: Take off, hold a low stable hover and make small control inputs before attempting height, distance or camera moves.
5. Land with battery remaining: Return while you still have comfortable battery reserve, land on a clear level surface and let the battery cool before charging.

What to expect as a beginner

Your first flight is for learning the controls, not testing maximum height or distance. Start with a low hover, make one small movement at a time and land while you still have a comfortable battery reserve. Calm weather makes the aircraft easier to control and helps produce steadier footage.

Altitude hold and one-key controls can reduce workload, but they do not replace pilot attention. Treat one-key return as an aid rather than a precision GPS failsafe: keep the drone in sight and remain ready to steer and land it yourself.

Capture a useful first clip

Let the drone settle into a stable hover before recording. Use one slow movement per clip, avoid abrupt stick inputs and keep the aircraft close enough to maintain visual awareness. The phone view helps with framing, but you should still watch the aircraft and its surroundings directly.

Check US rules before takeoff

Recreational pilots in the United States must complete the free TRUST safety test and follow current FAA rules. Registration and Remote ID requirements depend on the aircraft's takeoff weight and how it is used. Confirm the current requirements on the official FAA recreational flyers page before flying. Keep the drone within visual line of sight and stay away from airports, crowds and restricted airspace.
